The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has donated scholastic materials worth Shs75 million to 93 schools in the Kigezi Sub-Region as part of the activities marking the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations.
The support was delivered on Friday at Kayungwe Primary School in Kanungu District by Maj Josephat Tumukunde, the Head of Education under the UPDF Joint Staff – Formal Education, Sports and Culture.
Maj Tumukunde said the donation aligns with the government’s long-standing efforts to improve education access across the country.
“This is a way of supporting the 1997 presidential initiative of making sure every Ugandan school-going child is attending school with proper support materials,” he said.
He urged parents to take advantage of the existing peace to actively participate in their children’s learning and improvement in school performance. He also thanked partners contributing to this year’s celebrations, including Vision Group, which donated additional textbooks.
Kayungwe Primary School Headmaster, Mr Martin Twinebyona, said the donation demonstrates the impact of peace and stability on education.
“We call upon parents to strongly embrace the values of education now that they have received a boost of scholastic materials from UPDF,” he said.
Head prefect Tukamusiima Clare thanked the UPDF for extending its outreach to learners.
“We thank the government for putting UPE in place and the UPDF for including us in their programme and providing us with scholastic materials,” she said.
The donation is part of the UPDF’s community outreach efforts during Tarehe Sita, which aims to strengthen patriotism, national unity, and access to essential public services.
