President Vladimir Putin of Russia has congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda on his re-election, affirming the strategic partnership between their nations.

President Museveni won the January 15, 2026 election, securing a 71.6% of the vote.

In his formal message, President Putin expressed confidence that Museveni's continued leadership would significantly contribute to strengthening the traditionally friendly bilateral ties and developing mutually beneficial cooperation. This endorsement underscores the diplomatic relationship between Russia and Uganda.

President Museveni's electoral victory has been acknowledged by a number of fellow heads of state from across Africa, the Middle East and beyond. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended his congratulations, praising the confidence of the Ugandan people and reaffirming Egypt's commitment to strengthening ties. The leadership of the United Arab Emirates also congratulated President Museveni on his re-election. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan conveyed her congratulations, describing the victory as a reflection of public trust in his leadership and vision for Uganda and expressing a desire to continue deepening the fraternal bond between the two nations.

Other regional leaders who have offered congratulations include President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, President Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, President William Ruto of Kenya, and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia. Their messages recognized the electoral outcome and conveyed wishes for continued progress and regional cooperation.
