President Vladimir Putin of Russia has congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda on his re-election, affirming the strategic partnership between their nations.
President Museveni won the January 15, 2026 election, securing a 71.6% of the vote.
In his formal message, President Putin expressed confidence that Museveni's continued leadership would significantly contribute to strengthening the traditionally friendly bilateral ties and developing mutually beneficial cooperation. This endorsement underscores the diplomatic relationship between Russia and Uganda.
President Museveni's electoral victory has been acknowledged by a number of fellow heads of state from across Africa, the Middle East and beyond. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended his congratulations, praising the confidence of the Ugandan people and reaffirming Egypt's commitment to strengthening ties. The leadership of the United Arab Emirates also congratulated President Museveni on his re-election.
