The Border Internal Security team at Busia One Stop Border Point has arrested a 25-year-old Sudanese man for carrying military uniforms without the required documents.
According to David Mugarra, the URA Customs Supervisor, the Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) system detected the hidden items on Tuesday morning, November 12 2025, during a routine baggage scan.
The suspect, Datrio David Baba Jeremiah, was travelling on a Bebeto Coaches bus entering Uganda from Kenya at about 3:00 a.m. “During the routine scanning process, officers detected suspicious items in the suspect’s luggage. Further image analysis and physical inspection revealed clothing that looked like military attire, prompting immediate action,” Mugarra said.
Officers recovered 59 pieces of military uniforms. The suspect and the items were handed over to the Border Internal Security team for further investigation.
Military uniforms are security-sensitive items. They require clearance from the Ministries of Security and Defence before they are imported or transported across borders.
The NII system continues to help officers detect and prevent non-compliance, improving revenue collection and border security.
URA said it remains committed to working with security agencies and other partners to safeguard Uganda’s borders, enforce customs laws, and protect citizens.
