The first Uganda-China Coffee Awareness Tour ended with the launch of a new trade and investment meeting.
This event marks a major step in growing ties between Uganda and China in the coffee sector.
At the closing event, Uganda’s Ambassador to Beijing, Oliver Wonekha, praised the partnership.
She said Uganda’s good climate, high-quality Arabica and Robusta beans, and young farmers give Uganda a strong edge in meeting China’s rising demand for top-grade coffee.
She added that the Embassy will keep working to cut trade barriers, open markets, and boost tech transfer and cultural ties. China’s Ambassador to Uganda, Zhang Lizhong, called the tour a success.
He said it has deepened trade links and brought more attention to Uganda’s rich coffee heritage.
He noted that China values sustainably grown coffee and looks forward to future partnerships built on trust, trade, and technology. Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, Uganda’s Permanent Secretary, spoke about the tour’s impact.
He said visits to key coffee zones — Masaka, Mbarara, and Mbale — helped show Uganda’s potential and draw interest in better processing and direct sales to Chinese buyers.
He also highlighted that coffee exports to China have jumped by 190% as of March 2025.
Ambassador Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Geoffrey Muheesi thanked all those involved and urged stakeholders to keep up the drive. This tour supports Uganda’s long-term goals under its Coffee Roadmap 2030 and Vision 2040. It sets China as a key partner in Uganda’s push to grow its coffee industry.
