Uganda collected $66.62 million (about Shs238 billion) from exporting 585,576 bags of coffee weighing 60kgs each in September, according to the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA).

This is a decline in earnings as $75.09 million (about Shs265 billion) was picked up in August.

However, the Authority says the value of coffee increased in September, with each kilogram trading at an average price of $ 1.90, 11 cents higher than $1.79 per kilo in August.

"This was an increase of 16% and 50% in quantity & value compared to the same month last year," UCDA said in a Monday statement.

According to the statement, 27.75% of the coffee went to Italy, which was the biggest consumer, followed by Germany (12.28), Algeria (11.03), India (10.09), Sudan (9.5), Morocco (6.13), US  (5.03), Spain (4.02), Belgium (2.78) and Israel (1.93).

At the continental level, Europe bought 50% of the coffee sold, followed by Africa at 29%, Asia (17%), and the rest went to North America.

Robusta made up 543279 bags of the exports and Arabica contributed 42,297 bags.
