The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has passed out 289 officials who completed a one-month transformational leadership course at a Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) training centre in Nakaseke District.
The officials from the tax body completed Intake 09/2026 at the Oliver Reginald Tambo School of Leadership and Pan-African Centre in Kaweweta.
Speaking at the pass-out ceremony on August 19, 2026, State Minister for Microfinance in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Shartsi Kutesa Musherure praised URA management for investing in leadership training.
She said the decision would help prepare the institution for future challenges.
“You are laying a strong foundation for URA’s future success,” she said.
Musherure urged the officials to embrace ethical and visionary leadership as they serve the country.
She asked them to perform their duties with integrity, empathy and foresight.
Representing the Chief of Defence Forces, the Coordinator of Vital Assets and Strategic Installations, Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate, said the officers had achieved strong results during the month-long training.
He described their performance as exceptional.
“The only reason you have done so is that you liked what you are doing,” he said.
Maj Gen Rwakitarate commended URA for choosing UPDF institutions to train its staff, saying the move reflected growing confidence in military leadership programmes.
URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi thanked the UPDF leadership for partnering with the authority to develop its workforce.
He urged the graduates to maintain the discipline, ideological orientation, knowledge and physical fitness gained during the course.
The Commandant of the Oliver Reginald Tambo School of Leadership and Pan-African Centre, Brig Gen Justus Rukundo, said the training aimed to strengthen leadership skills, improve organisational performance and equip URA officers with practical approaches to solving challenges.
He warned the graduates against corruption, sectarianism and intrigue, urging them to remain loyal to URA and Uganda.
“You are expected to put the knowledge gained into practice so that everybody can testify that you are indeed a distinct and excellent intake and ideologically clear and politically cautious cadres of URA,” Brig Gen Rukundo said.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the UPDF, URA and other institutions, including the Basic Military Training School in Kaweweta, Uganda Air Force College in Nakasongola, National Intelligence Academy, Fort Samora Special Forces Command Training Academy, URA Tax Academy and URA Staff Academy.
