The 4 Infantry Division of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has passed out a cohort of soldiers who successfully completed a three-month Specialised Arms training course at the Division Training School in Lugore.
The comprehensive program was designed to equip the soldiers with advanced technical capabilities, field tactics, and core operational knowledge ahead of their deployment across respective operational units.
Presiding over the graduation ceremony, 4 Infantry Division Commander, Major General Wilberforce Karate Serunkuma, stressed that military discipline extends beyond standard adherence to lawful commands.
He charged the graduating troops to demonstrate high standards of professional conduct, maintain team cohesion, and uphold the chain of command as they assume active field duties.
Director of Human Resource for Land Forces, Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Ayuku Ewama, urged the soldiers to deeply understand the strategic concepts, operational doctrine, and broader purpose of their specialized training as they transition into full combat service.
Representing the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine Command, Col. Michael Katongole Sempijja, commended the soldiers for achieving foundational readiness and encouraged continuous professional skill development.
“You have met the minimum competence to begin serving in your units,” Col. Sempijja stated.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of merit awards to outstanding trainees. Pte. Isaac Ochero received the award for Best Overall Trainee, while Pte. Mildred Kyosaba was recognized as the Best in Field.
The pass-out event was attended by Deputy Division Commander Col. Richard Kidega Obura, Col. Alex Wambi, Division Training Officer Col. Orombi Oloya, alongside brigade commanders, commanding officers, and invited dignitaries.
