Uganda is accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure across public service delivery under the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV) and the Digital Transformation Roadmap.
The Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba, presented Uganda's digital modernization record during the AI and Digital Ministerial meeting in Seoul.
Minister Lumumba revealed that the country has expanded its national optical backbone infrastructure by laying more than 4,400 kilometres of fibre optic cable to boost public connectivity.
She highlighted that government agencies now utilize a secure data-sharing network anchored by the National Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Ugpass digital identity platform, operating under the regulatory enforcement of the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
The Minister emphasized that the recently launched National Strategy for AI and Emerging Technologies aims to deploy artificial intelligence solutions into critical public sectors, including agriculture, healthcare delivery, education, tourism promotion, land titling, and domestic revenue mobilization.
