Museveni Releases Cabinet List 2026-2031

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has released his highly anticipated cabinet line-up for the 2026–2031 political term, introducing strategic changes to key state ministries.

The President announced the new appointments on Tuesday under the executive powers granted to him by the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. 

Among the most prominent changes, the President appointed Hon. Balaam Barugahara as the new Minister of Local Government. Additionally, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka takes political charge of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs.

The official executive declaration cited several specific constitutional provisions that authorize the structural appointments.

"By virtue of the powers given to the President of Uganda under Articles 108(1) and (2), 108A(1), 111(1), 113(1), and 114(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, the following persons have been proposed for appointment as Vice President, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State, and Senior Presidential Advisors", said President Museveni.
