State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere has endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the presidency in 2031, arguing that being the son of the sitting president should not disqualify him from seeking the country’s highest office.
The endorsement was made during her visit to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretariat in Naguru, where PLU General Secretary Fadil Twalla noted that Nameere had joined millions of Ugandans—including senior government leaders—in supporting Gen. Kainerugaba for “2031 and beyond.” As part of her support, Nameere donated endorsement books to bolster mobilisation efforts in Masaka City.
Her endorsement aligns with a growing wave of support from key Cabinet members, including Defence Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Kampala Affairs Minister Minsa Kabanda, State Minister for Health Anifa Kawooya, and several other ministers who have backed the PLU initiative.
Highlighting his service in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and his stance against graft, Nameere credited Gen. Kainerugaba with championing a renewed fight against corruption. She noted that her support stems from a longstanding belief in his leadership and vision for Uganda, which predates his current presidential ambitions.
Nameere also dismissed reports of a rift involving herself, the PLU, and Gen. Kainerugaba, suggesting that certain individuals may have exploited her anti-corruption stance to create false narratives of division.
Emphasising that her support extends beyond a symbolic gesture, Nameere called for a clear vision, cohesive messaging, and a practical mobilisation plan to back Gen. Kainerugaba’s 2031 bid.
