The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd has handed over the newly constructed Nyamasoga–Katooke Road in Hoima District.
EACOP, which is leading the development of Uganda’s crude oil export pipeline, delivered the road in partnership with Hoima City under its Socio-Economic Investment programme. The project aims to improve livelihoods, boost trade and ease daily activities in communities along the pipeline route.
The 7.5-kilometre marram road is located in Buseruka Sub-county. It connects Kayera and Katooke villages, home to about 6,500 residents in more than 600 households. The road links to the Kaiso–Tonya Highway and improves access to trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka. It also makes it easier for residents to reach health facilities, schools and local markets.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, JB Habumugisha said the company remains focused on supporting communities. “EACOP remains committed to ensuring that the communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This road project demonstrates our dedication to supporting local development priorities in partnership with government authorities.”
The project followed a request from Hoima District leaders who raised concerns about poor transport in the area. Before construction, the road was in bad condition and often impassable. Officials expect the upgrade to increase trade, improve access to services and stimulate economic activity.
The Resident District Commissioner of Hoima, Rodgers Mbabazi, welcomed the project. He thanked EACOP for investing in community infrastructure and said such efforts help improve the quality of life for residents.
Officials handed over the road to Mbabazi at a ceremony held at Katooke trading centre. Local councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer and residents attended the event.
