Presidents Salva Kiir of South Sudan and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia have arrived at State House Entebbe for the inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni. The high-profile arrivals underscore regional cooperation ahead of the swearing-in ceremony at Kololo on May 12.

Heads of State have begun arriving in Uganda ahead of the presidential inauguration scheduled for May 12, 2026, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni received several African leaders at State House Entebbe on Monday during a series of high-level diplomatic meetings. The arrivals signal strong regional support for the President as he prepares to take the oath of office tomorrow.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit of the Republic of South Sudan was among the first dignitaries to arrive with his delegation. President Museveni emphasized the deep historical connections between the two neighboring nations during their meeting. He noted that the visit serves to further solidify the brotherly ties and cooperation that define the relationship between Kampala and Juba.

“I warmly welcome him and wish him a fruitful stay as we continue to strengthen the historic brotherly ties and cooperation between our two countries,” President Museveni said.

The President also held talks with H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the President of Somalia. The Somali leader joined the gathering of dignitaries to witness the swearing-in ceremony. President Museveni praised the spirit of cooperation that continues to enhance the partnership between Uganda and Somalia. He expressed his gratitude for the visit and wished the Somali President a productive stay in the country.

“I appreciate his visit and the spirit of brotherhood and cooperation that continues to strengthen the relations between Uganda and Somalia,” the President noted.

Several other presidents from across the continent are expected to arrive in the country by Tuesday morning. The government has designated the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds as the venue for the historic event. Security remains tight across the capital as the nation prepares for the arrival of more foreign delegations. This inauguration marks the beginning of a new term for President Museveni following his recent electoral victory.
