A 27-member contingent from the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) has departed for Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in the 2nd Africa Military Games.

The team is led by Brig Gen Richard Karemire. "Our team is not only aiming for victory but also to embody the spirit of African solidarity," said Brig Gen Karemire.

The UPDF has a history of success in the African Military Games, having won silver and bronze medals at the inaugural event in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002.

Maj Gen Dr Joseph Lucky Kidega, the Joint Staff Headquarters Brigade Group Commander, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for supporting the team's participation. He wished the team well and encouraged them to return with gold medals.

The African Military Games provide an opportunity for African nations to showcase their military prowess and promote sportsmanship and camaraderie. The UPDF's participation underscores the country's commitment to regional cooperation and military excellence.
