President Yoweri Museveni has named Dr. Charles Olaro as the new Director General for Health Services at the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Olaro has held this role on an acting basis since November 2024, after the term of former director Dr. Henry Mwebesa ended.

Dr. Mwebesa was later named chairperson of the Health Service Commission by President Museveni.

The Ministry of Health shared a message on X: “Congratulations Dr. Charles Olaro upon your appointment as Director General Health Services.”

Before his promotion, Dr. Olaro served as Director of Clinical Services. He also worked as director of curative services in the Ministry of Health.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Olaro was hospital director and senior consultant surgeon at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for eight years. He joined that hospital in 2008 as medical superintendent.

From April 2001 to June 2008, he worked as medical superintendent and consultant surgeon at Arua Regional Referral Hospital.

Between 1992 and 2006, Dr. Olaro served as medical officer special grade, senior house officer, and medical officer at Arua, Mulago, and Lacor Hospitals, in that order.
