The Ministry of Health has received advanced medical equipment from the United States Government to strengthen tuberculosis (TB) screening and diagnosis in 68 districts across Uganda.
The donation includes 48 portable digital X-ray machines with computer-aided detection (CAD), 33 TB-LAMP diagnostic platforms, and 33 mobile tricycles branded as "Mobile XLAMP." These tools are expected to improve early detection and treatment of TB, especially in hard-to-reach communities.
U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, William W. Popp, and USAID Uganda Mission Director, Daniele Nyirandutiye, officially handed over the equipment to the Ministry in a joint effort to advance public health and epidemic preparedness.
“This U.S. donation will help screen over 500,000 people in the coming year, saving lives and protecting both the American and Ugandan people from TB,” the U.S. Mission stated.
The donation also included thermal scanners to boost Ebola screening at Uganda’s major entry points, along with personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers.
“With new mobile X-rays, enhanced diagnostics, and community health workers, we’re reaching every corner to ensure that everyone receives TB diagnosis and treatment,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to achieve a TB-free Uganda while strengthening health security and resilience nationwide.
