Prof. Obua acknowledged public concerns about how these students would transition to Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) since the previous curriculum at that level followed an outdated structure. However, he commended the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) for implementing changes that will align UACE studies with the current UCE learning experience, ensuring a smoother transition in the coming weeks.
UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said that 10,141 candidates from 1,028 centres registered for the exams, with 4,369 (43.1%) male and 5,373 (52.9%) female. Of these, 813 candidates (8.0%) were beneficiaries of the Universal Secondary Education (USE) programme, while 8,929 (88.0%) were non-USE students. A total of 9,742 candidates (96.1%) sat for the examination, while 399 were absent.

Under the new competency-based assessment system, candidates are no longer ranked into divisions. To earn a UCE Certificate, a student must achieve at least a competency level grade D in at least one subject.

Overall, 350,146 candidates (98.05%) met the requirements for the UCE Certificate, which will be recorded on their transcripts and certificates as Result 1. Candidates who failed to meet the minimum criteria, either missing compulsory subjects, taking fewer than eight subjects, or lacking recorded project work scores, will have Result 2 indicated on their transcripts.
The results were officially announced by the Minister for Education and Sports and First Lady, Janet Museveni, at State House Nakasero on Tuesday, February 11.
