The Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) has launched an Augmented and Virtual Reality (AVR) lab, a facility designed to modernize learning and equip students with future-ready skills.
The lab, outfitted with VR headsets, AR glasses, and high-resolution smart screens, will support interactive STEM education through simulations and virtual labs.
Edison Nkurunungi, UICT’s AVR Project Manager, explained the vision: “The need to modernize our methods, enhance student engagement, and equip learners with skills that align with the demands of the digital age drove the decision to incorporate AVR technology in teaching and learning.”
Since the project’s start in January, the AVR lab has already demonstrated a notable increase in STEM student performance and engagement according to Nkurunungi. Looking ahead, UICT plans to scale AVR technology across campus, expand courses, and form partnerships with tech companies to fund future initiatives.
The AVR lab exemplifies UICT’s dedication to providing students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge fields and leading educational innovation in Uganda.
