Uganda Airlines has announced the launch of direct flights to London Gatwick, marking its first expansion into Europe. The new route, set to begin on May 18, 2025, will operate four times a week, reestablishing a direct air link between Entebbe and the United Kingdom after nearly a decade.
The airline's Chief Executive Officer, Jenifer Bamuturaki, said the new service will provide greater convenience for travelers and strengthen trade, tourism, and investment between the two countries.
"Uganda and the United Kingdom share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties. This new route is expected to boost opportunities for both nations," Bamuturaki said.
Boost for Trade and Tourism
Entebbe has been identified as one of Africa’s most underserved markets for London flights. The new connection is expected to meet the growing demand for seamless travel between the two regions.
The UK remains a key source market for tourists visiting Uganda, a country known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich wildlife, and vibrant culture. The direct flights will make it easier for British travelers to explore Uganda’s natural attractions, including national parks, gorilla trekking experiences, and the River Nile.
Uganda Airlines will operate the flights using the Airbus A330-800neo.
The schedule is designed to provide smooth connections via Entebbe International Airport to the airline’s growing African network. Key destinations include Johannesburg, Nairobi, Lagos, Abuja, Juba, Mogadishu, Kinshasa, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Mombasa, and the soon-to-launch Accra route.
