Rwandan authorities have broken their silence regarding a Ugandan IT expert who was kidnapped late last year and had been missing for several months.
The Kigali government has now declared Mr Ivan Peter Egessa an unwanted person in Rwanda and exress orders indicate that he should never step foot in Rwanda again.
Mr Ivan Peter Egessa was kidnapped by suspected Rwandan security in Kigali in December last year.
Following the news of his kidnapping and disappearance, his family cried out to the Ugandan authorities for intervention. Subsequently, Uganda sent a notice to Rwanda inquiring about Egessa but the Kigali government ignored the notice.
Now, the Rwandan Director General of Immigration and Emigration under the National Intelligence and Security Services Mr Francois Regis Gatarayiha on February 13, 2020 issued the statement declaring Egessa an unwanted person in Rwanda.
“Take note that you are declared a prohibited immigrant in Rwanda within the meaning of articles 12 and 15 of the law 57/2018 of 13/08/2018 on immigration and emigration in Rwanda,” the Rwandan order reads in part.
The order did not say whether Egesa had been handed over to Uganda or he was still in Rwandan custody.
