Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara has claimed that young people, including those aligned with the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), are actively demanding Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to become Uganda's next president.
Speaking during an appearance on Sanyuka TV, Barugahara recounted a recent visit to Kamwokya, a known opposition stronghold where he was stopped by a group of youth. According to the minister, these youth expressed confidence that Gen. Kainerugaba is the leader destined to steer Uganda toward modernization and development.
"Wherever I go, I meet young people who ask me: 'Where is our leader?' referring to Gen. Kainerugaba. They tell me he is the one who will save us from corruption and bring about development," Barugahara said.
The minister asserted that a vast majority of patriotic Ugandans are yearning for Gen. Kainerugaba’s leadership, suggesting that some individuals currently aligned with the opposition are only there to secure elective positions.
Barugahara also dismissed critics who paint Gen. Kainerugaba as an unapproachable figure.
Instead, he described the general as a humble, law-abiding transformer and an excellent listener.
"Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is law-abiding, humble, very kind, and exceptionally disciplined. He is a disciplinarian. I love him because he listens and is a true patriot," the minister added.
Addressing questions regarding the structure of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Barugahara clarified that there is nothing wrong with Gen. Kainerugaba appointing high-ranking government officials, including the Speaker of Parliament, to roles within the organization.
"PLU is our clan, headed by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba," Barugahara explained. "Speaker Oboth, as a member of this clan, naturally falls under his leadership."
Regarding Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba's involvement in political statements, Minister Balaam clarified that as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, the General acts on the direct instructions of the President.
This unique mandate allows him to engage in all national matters, including partisan politics.
Furthermore, regarding his active presence in public affairs, Balaam added that these interventions are specifically aimed at wiping out corruption and driving government efficiency.
