Major General Charles Byanyima has commissioned 122 officers into leadership roles following their graduation from the Platoon Commanders Course in Nakasongola. The General emphasized that professional military education is the foundation for the UPDF's future leadership and national security mandate.

Major General Charles Byanyima has challenged 122 newly minted platoon commanders to lead with integrity as they assume greater responsibilities within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).

The Commander Motorised Infantry Division presided over the graduation ceremony on Saturday at the School of Defence Intelligence and Security in Migyera. He represented the Commander Land Forces at the event. Maj Gen Byanyima told the graduates that their completion of the Platoon Commanders Course signals a shift toward serious professional leadership.

“The skills you have acquired during this training have equipped and mentored you with professional abilities to handle any challenging task,” Maj Gen Byanyima said.

The General emphasized that the officers must now embody accountability in every decision. He directed the group to uphold the UPDF code of conduct with unwavering loyalty and patriotism. He further reminded them of their constitutional duty to protect the nation under Article 209 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

Brigadier General Wycliff Keita, representing the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, noted that the course addresses specific operational gaps. He explained that the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) introduced this initiative to eliminate training backlogs. This strategy ensures all eligible personnel receive the professional military education necessary for career advancement.

The School Commandant, Colonel Ezra Kokundakwe, confirmed that the graduating class included 22 female officers. He praised the local Migyera community and the military leadership for supporting the intensive program.

Colonel Nicholas Humble Nyesiga, representing the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, credited the President for prioritizing human resource development. He noted that such investments have transformed the UPDF into a versatile and agile institution.

Several high-ranking military officials attended the pass-out, including Brig Gen Paul Namawa and Brig Gen Freeman Mugabe. The officers now return to their respective units to apply their new tactical and ideological skills.
