The First National Vice Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Alhaji Moses Kigongo, has cautioned party supporters against persuading members who lose in party primaries to stand as independents, warning that such actions weaken party unity and undermine its electoral strength.

Speaking during a meeting with NRM flag bearers in Luuka District, Alhaji Kigongo said encouraging defeated aspirants to run independently promotes division and distracts the party from its mission of consolidating power and delivering development.

“Vote for someone with the NRM flag if you don’t want your vote to be wasted. Don’t engage in other people’s battles,” Kigongo emphasized.

The meeting, held at Budhabangula Village in Bulongo Sub-county, was also attended by Haji Faruk Kirunda, the Special Presidential Assistant for Press and Mobilization and Deputy NRM Spokesperson.

Alhaji Kigongo urged members to remain disciplined and loyal to the party, adding that political cliques and internal conflicts threaten the NRM’s legacy of stability and progress.

“These cliques create unnecessary tension and destroy teamwork within our structures,” he cautioned.

He commended Haji Kirunda for his dedication to the Busoga sub-region, praising his continued mobilization efforts for the party.

“Kirunda has Busoga at heart, and he always minds about it. The spirit of that kind is good, and we need to emulate him,” Kigongo noted.

In his remarks, Haji Kirunda appealed to Luuka residents to vote overwhelmingly for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and all NRM flag bearers at every level in the upcoming general elections.

“Luuka has always supported the NRM. If you vote well from top to bottom, we shall return to support you and strengthen the gains we have made,” he said.

Religious and district leaders also called for unity within the party. The Archdeacon of Kiyunga Archdeaconry, Rev. Can. Moses Dhikange, urged members to reconcile and avoid infighting, while Luuka Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Kibwika Micheal encouraged NRM flag bearers to promote the party manifesto as they campaign.

“The manifesto is the foundation of our message to the people. Let us sell it effectively so that voters understand the development agenda we stand for,” the RDC advised.

Alhaji Kigongo’s message reinforced the NRM’s call for cohesion ahead of the 2026 general elections, as the party seeks to maintain dominance across the country.
