The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has opened Junior Staff Course Intake 36/2025–2026 at the Junior Staff College Gaddafi, aimed at the army’s commitment to professionalizing its officer corps.

College Commandant Brig Gen Chris Ogwal said the intake consists of officers drawn from various UPDF units, ranging in rank from Captain to Major. He explained that the four-month course is designed to prepare junior officers for staff appointments by strengthening their analytical and communication skills.

“The training will enhance officers’ understanding of the art and science of war, improve leadership abilities, and promote cooperation between services,” Brig Gen Ogwal said. He emphasized that the course would equip participants to operate effectively in joint and combined arms environments and apply their knowledge to advance the UPDF’s mission.

The UPDF leadership says the improvements are intended to create a modern and conducive learning environment that supports excellence in military education.
