The rivalry between Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and her predecessor Rebecca Kadaga has escalated, with the two leaders exchanging sharp criticisms amid their contest for a top NRM party position.

Kadaga sparked the latest clash by accusing Among of corruption, claiming the current Speaker is under international sanctions and thus unfit to lead. During a meeting with delegates in Busoga, Kadaga said that her rival cannot travel freely due to sanctions and therefore unable to execute her duties effectively.

In a widely circulated video, she also took a veiled jab at Among, stating, ‘Applying cosmetics on the skin’ doesn’t make one a good leader.

In response, Among dismissed the corruption allegations, asserting that she was "not raised on the streets" and respects elders—unlike her rival. While acknowledging Kadaga’s legacy, Among emphasized that "leadership requires dignity and proper upbringing," implying her opponent falls short.

Kadaga is seeking to retain her position as the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (female) while Among aims to take up the post.

The position is the third in NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) hierarchy. The CEC is NRM’s top decision making body.
