President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday, July 21, 2025, met with the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Qu Dongyu, at State House, Entebbe. Their discussion focused on deepening Uganda’s partnership with the FAO to advance sustainable agriculture and strengthen food security.

President Museveni welcomed the FAO delegation and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to transforming its agri-food systems. He emphasized that agriculture remains a national priority and recognized the FAO’s critical role in driving sector-wide reforms.

“Agriculture is at the heart of our economic growth strategy,” President Museveni said. “We appreciate FAO’s support and are ready to work closely to achieve sustainable food production and improved livelihoods.”

The leaders discussed deepening cooperation in key areas such as sustainable agriculture, food security, and nutrition. President Museveni also underscored the importance of income security and hygiene as essential pillars for individual well-being and national development.

Qu Dongyu commended Uganda for its consistent support to the FAO and pledged the organization’s commitment to advancing Uganda’s agricultural transformation agenda.

“Uganda has significant potential for rapid growth and development,” Dongyu noted. “FAO stands ready to support Uganda’s investment plans and help achieve its agricultural goals.”

The FAO delegation included Maximo Torero, Chief Economist; Abebe Haile Gabriel, Assistant Director-General and Representative for Africa; Lineo Molise, Regional Coordinator for Africa; and Shen Hong, Assistant to the Director General.

The meeting signals renewed momentum in Uganda’s quest to enhance agricultural productivity and build resilient food systems through strategic partnerships.
