Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has redistributed 5,195 tablets used in the 2024 National Population and Housing Census to four cultural kingdoms and 12 institutions of higher learning, a move officials say will strengthen digital literacy and data‑driven decision‑making across the country.
UBOS executive director Dr Chris Mukiza presided over the hand‑over on Monday, describing the devices as “a national asset that must continue serving public good.”
“These tablets collected vital census data; they will now help our universities and cultural institutions build stronger statistical systems and improve service delivery,” he said.

Receiving 250 tablets for Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Principal Prof Moses Muhwezi said the gadgets would “advance training in data analytics for both staff and students.”
Buganda Kingdom’s Minister for ICT Noah Kiyimba welcomed the donation, noting that the devices will back up the kingdom’s e‑governance drive and digital archiving of cultural records.
Dr Mukiza urged recipients to keep the tablets secure and functional. “We maintain an open channel for technical support,” he said, adding that UBOS will audit usage after one year to ensure the devices “remain in active service to Ugandans.”
