Cedric Babu Ndilima, the renowned Ugandan media personality, sports administrator, and former national tennis champion, has tragically passed away after a prolonged battle with severe heart failure.
Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) where Ndilima worked recently issued a condolence note following the news of his death.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Cedric Babu Ndilima, a former colleague and valued member of the UBC family. Through The Cedric Live Show, he brought insight and vibrance to our screens. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” the statement from UBC reads.
The 46-year-old had been in intensive care in Nairobi following a sudden collapse during a trip to Kigali, Rwanda, earlier this month.
Cedric Babu, son of veteran politician Captain Francis Babu was a beloved figure across Uganda’s media, sports, and political spheres.
His family and friends had launched an appeal for Shs1.5 billion (approximately £300,000) to fund an emergency heart transplant in London, but despite the outpouring of public support, his condition deteriorated rapidly.
Cedric first rose to prominence as a television host in the early 2000s before transitioning into sports leadership, serving as President of the Uganda Tennis Association and representing Uganda in the Davis Cup.
His entrepreneurial ventures included founding Kinetic Management Group (KMG), a pioneering talent agency that bridged Uganda’s creative and corporate sectors.
In 2021, he ventured into politics, contesting the Kampala Central parliamentary seat under the NRM party but lost the election.
