The Electoral Commission of Uganda has opened its first regional office and storage facility in West Nile. This is aimed at strengthening democratic infrastructure ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Located in Arua City, the office is the first in a planned rollout of 12 regional centers to foster improved service delivery and accessibility across the country.

Presiding over the ceremony on Monday, Arua City Resident City Commissioner Komakech Salim emphasized the importance of decentralizing electoral services to ensure that no region is left behind.

Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama, who officiated at the event, described the development as a symbol of institutional growth and a testament to Uganda’s democratic maturity. “This is a demonstration of our commitment to inclusive, credible, and transparent electoral processes,” he said.

Justice Byabakama praised the Government of Uganda for its support and commended the National Enterprise Corporation for executing the project within time. He also acknowledged the vital role played by Arua Municipality in facilitating the initiative.

He noted that the West Nile office would serve as a model for similar regional centers across the country, reinforcing the Commission’s independence and operational capacity.

“This regional office will bring services closer to the people and ensure timely delivery of electoral materials in one of the most distant regions,” he added.
