Officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces – Air Force (UPDF-AF) have been urged to maintain ideological consciousness and embrace financial prudence as fundamental principles of their service.
This call was made during the closing of a week-long ideological symposium at the Air Command and Leadership Training Centre in Nakasongola. Officers from the Ground-Based Air Defence, the 2 Air Force Wing, and the Uganda Air Force College attended the event, which focused on discipline, patriotism, and professional integrity.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Francis Takirwa, the Deputy Commander Land Force advised officers to practice financial responsibility and plan for retirement. He encouraged them to save through the Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO) rather than engaging in reckless spending.
He also urged officers to build trust within their families as the foundation for stable homes and cautioned them against adopting Western cultural influences.
Major General Henry Matsiko, the Joint Staff Political Commissariat, emphasized the importance of maintaining revolutionary methods of work within the force.
Colonel Robert Ngabirano, Director of Education, Sports, and Culture in UPDF-AF, encouraged officers to support army schools, noting that many civilians enroll their children in these institutions because of their high academic standards.
Colonel Anatoli Nuwagira, Director Political Commissariat-AF, stressed the need for a positive mindset and attitude among officers. He urged them to lead by example and use such symposiums to learn from senior officers about the history of the UPDF. “Ideological mentoring is critical in the force,” he said.
The event was attended by senior officers, including Commandant Uganda Air Force College – Nakasongola, Colonel James Muhwezi, and Brigadier General Allan Kalanzi.
