Uganda and Belgium have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence diplomacy to enhance mutual understanding and security cooperation.
The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Jacob Oboth Oboth emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral ties during a meeting with Belgian Ambassador Hugues Chantry at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Mbuya.
Oboth commended Belgium’s longstanding partnership with Uganda and underscored the country’s dedication to reinforcing defence collaboration. He noted that Uganda’s strong regional relationships make it unique and that strengthening these bonds can “enhance mutual understanding.”
Ambassador Chantry expressed optimism about a new phase in Uganda-Belgium relations. He emphasized that continued collaboration would yield positive outcomes for both nations.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking military officials, including Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Chief Joint Staff Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security Brig Gen Abdul Rugumayo, Acting Director Defence Public Information Col Chris Magezi, and Defence Attaché to Bujumbura Col Michel Recour.
