President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni presided over a special retirement ceremony for Deborah Katuramu, the outgoing Deputy Head of Public Service, during a cabinet meeting at State House Entebbe. The event marked Katuramu's last attendance at a cabinet session after nearly five decades of service to the government of Uganda.
In his remarks, President Museveni praised Katuramu for her exemplary service and corruption-free record. He presented her with a Presidential award in recognition of her contributions. "I have not heard anything about her being involved in corruption," President Museveni said, lauding her dedication and wishing her a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.
Katuramu’s public service career spanned 49 years, where she served in various senior positions, including her most recent role as Deputy Head of Public Service and Deputy Secretary to Cabinet. Vice President Jessica Alupo acknowledged Katuramu’s significant impact on public service, noting her professionalism and mentoring of future leaders. "Your motherly and professional guidance will be missed," Alupo stated.
Lucy Nakyobe, Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, also expressed deep appreciation for Katuramu’s service. Nakyobe highlighted her unwavering dedication since her career began in 1975 as a Personnel Officer, noting that her wisdom, professionalism, and institutional knowledge have greatly benefited Uganda. “Her commitment will be remembered for generations,” Nakyobe added.
Reflecting on her career, Katuramu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve across different government sectors, including Local Government and the Office of the President. She credited Nakyobe for her support in preparing Cabinet papers and minutes and emphasized that her journey had been immensely rewarding.
As Katuramu steps into retirement, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence and profound influence on Uganda’s public service system.
