President Yoweri Museveni's decision to dismiss the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) bosses. The dismissed included KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy David Luyimbaazi, and Dr. Daniel Okello, the Director of Public Health and Environment. The move follows a report by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) that implicated the officials in the Kiteezi landfill disaster.

The landfill collapse in August resulted in the tragic loss of over 30 lives and displaced numerous residents. The disaster exposed the KCCA's gross negligence and incompetence in managing the city's waste. As authorities scrambled to find alternative dumpsites, Kampala was inundated with piles of garbage, leading to public health concerns and environmental hazards.

Ugandans on social media have been vocal in their support for President Museveni's decision. Many expressed frustration with the KCCA's leadership, citing their failure to address the city's pressing issues. "Finally, some accountability!" tweeted one user. "We've been waiting for this for too long."

President Museveni's decision to relieve the three top officials of their duties has been welcomed by many Ugandans, with some calling for even broader changes within the KCCA.

One social media user, Ntale Ben, expressed his support for the President's action, stating, “Dear President Museveni, we thank you for the decision you made to sack Dorothy Kisaka... but also this Fake Master Erias Lukwago has to go. He has been the worst Lord Mayor for Kampala." His statement reflects a growing sentiment among some Kampala residents who feel that the city’s leadership has been ineffective in addressing the capital's pressing challenges.

The Kiteezi landfill tragedy has been a stark reminder of the importance of proper waste management in urban areas. As the government now looks for alternative landfill sites, many are hopeful that the restructuring of the KCCA leadership will lead to meaningful changes in how the city is managed.

The decision to remove the officials has been widely supported, as Kampala continues to grapple with a mounting waste crisis. “This is a very good step taken! Under the leadership of Dorothy Kisaka, Kampala has continued to deteriorate in infrastructure and other social services,” remarked Twitter user Darius Nshabomwe.

The landfill disaster has exposed the dysfunction within KCCA, leading many to express anger over the leadership failures that contributed to the tragedy. Mwesigwa David voiced his frustrations on social media, stating, “The incompetent Dorothy Kisaka is fired. She should go and rot in jail. Our innocent people died because of this nonsensical leadership.”

Kampala residents have long criticized the inefficiency of KCCA, with many feeling that the city's infrastructure and services have worsened under Kisaka’s leadership. Social media user Bobiwine Kaunda Suit noted, “What Dorothy Kisaka has left behind is a messed-up capital. Taxis coming from Entebbe Road, Kabalagala, and Nsambya now offload from Nasser-Nkrumah Road. What a country of disorderly!”

As the government moves to address the fallout from the Kiteezi disaster, the call for further reforms within KCCA is growing, with many Ugandans hopeful that new leadership will bring much-needed improvements to the city’s management and infrastructure.
