President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Ugandan youth to embrace wealth creation and fully participate in government programs aimed at lifting communities out of poverty.
Speaking during International Youth Day celebrations in Masindi, Museveni encouraged young people to engage in commercial agriculture and use Ekibaro (calculation and planning) to maximize profits.
“To combat poverty, we must prioritize commercial agriculture with Ekibaro, using successful local farmers like Fred Byamuka as role models,” he said.
Museveni also highlighted the government’s commitment to job creation through the manufacturing and services sectors, with a strong focus on digital technology. He revealed plans to set up an industrial park in Hoima, saying it would create jobs and boost economic opportunities for young people in the region.
The President urged youth to safeguard funds allocated under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and hold leaders accountable for proper utilization. “The PDM funds belong to you. You should protect these funds and demand accountability,” he reminded them.
This years International Youth Day was held under the theme; “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnerships”.
