Fourteen Ugandans have been evacuated from Afghanistan shortly after the Taliban took over the country, Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The statement said Uganda is committed to assisting the evacuation of any Ugandan nationals stranded in Afghanistan who wish to return home.
The latest Ugandan to be evacuated is Mr Stephen Wamala, a Ugandan engineer who has been working with an Afghan wireless communication company as a heavy equipment engineer.
Wamala was evacuated by the US government at the request of the Government of Uganda. He was flown to an air force base in Belin, Germany before his trip to Uganda.
Vincent Bagiire Waiswa the permanent secretary at the ministry of foreign affairs welcomed Wamala. Wamala traveled back to Uganda on Friday aboard an SN Brussels flight from Frankfurt to Entebbe. His travel expenses and related costs were met by the Embassy of Uganda in Berlin, Germany.
Recalling his experience at Kabul during the unrest and takeover, Wamala thanked the two governments for the assistance given to him to safely evacuate him from Kabul.
Wamala joins 13 other Ugandans who have been evacuated. He is healthy, safe and ready to proceed to his home in Kitagwenda district.
Waiswa said the ministry was committed to assisting any Ugandan nationals stranded in Afghanistan who wish to return home.
Uganda has hosted 51 people evacuated from Afghanistan by the United States since the power change in the Asian country.
Uganda reached an agreement with the U.S. government to host 2,000 evacuees.
