Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on Thursday rolled out the exit module of the online platform that the Inspectorate of Government is using to facilitation declaration of incomes, assets and liabilities by outgoing leaders.
The speaker, who was meeting officials the corruption watchdog, used the opportunity to officially submit her declaration and hailed the government agency for its efforts on fighting corruption.
“I have read about the apartments you have confiscated. It indicates that some real work in fostering accountability is going on,” she said, according to a statement from parliament.
The officials from the Inspectorate of Government were led by Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG), Maryam Wangadya and outgoing Deputy IGG George Bamugemereire.
According to Wangadya, they’ve so far recovered over Shs10 billion and in the coming days, they’ll amplify public engagement to increase reporting of corrupt officials.
Wangadya noted that Parliament is the fourth institution with compliance to the declaration of assets at 94 percent, with the remaining six percent non-compliance being caused by MPs who lose by-elections and exit without the declaration.
The Speaker said this would not recur in future.
