Government will on Tuesday, 16th February 2021 join the rest of Ugandans to celebrate the 44th St. Janani Luwum Day.

Last Monday, Cabinet resolved that this year’s Janani Luwum Day will be commemorated scientifically at State House, Entebbe due to COVID-19. All the proceedings will be streamed live on Uganda Broadcasting Television (UBC) and other Media Channels.

The Public holiday is dedicated to the life and service of Janani Luwum, the former archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda, who was murdered on the orders of the then-President Idi Amin Dada on 16th February 1977.

It was in 2015 when President Yoweri Museveni declared February 16 a public holiday in honour of former Church of Uganda Archbishop.

According to COU Secretariat, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, will preach on the day’s theme, “Life in its Fullness,” from John 10. President Museveni will be the Chief Guest.
