The Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) will at the start of December commence issuing of driving permits taking over from over from Face Technologies, the South African firm that has been doing the job on behalf of the government since 2003.
The ministry of works and transport has allocated office space to USPC at the Uganda Railways Corporation in Kampala.

It is in 2019 that the government decided not to renew the license of Face Technologies, which ended in May this year.
The company, which is expected to hand over to USPC by end of November, has been operating on a transitional contract.
A spokesperson for the ministry of works and transport told me by phone that USPC will acquire the technology of its predecessor and they are also expected to improve on it.
Founded in 2018, USPC will partner with Veridos, a German company, to produce the permits.
The German firm in 2016 entered into a partnership with the government of Uganda to produce security documents and they are already printing electronic passports.
