Ministry of Health says test results from a suspected Covid-19 case in Kanungu district have turned out negative.

The Ministry said on its official twitter handle on Monday: “Results from the suspected case from Kanungu who presented with signs and symptoms similar to covid-19 have tested negative at the Uganda Virus Research Institute. As of today, Uganda has no case of covid-19.”

A tour guide from Kameme, Kihihi Subcounty in Kanungu district was on Sunday isolated after presenting signs and symptoms of Covid-19 (Coronavirus). Blood samples from the unnamed tour guide were taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe.

Meanwhile the Ministry urges the public to continue observing basic preventive measures such as regular hand washing with soap and water, use of alcohol based hand rub and also keeping at least a 1 metre distance from someone with flu like symptoms.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to shake the world, with more than 4,000 people dead, while 115,124 cases have been recorded in over 100 countries world over since December last year.

Uganda remains the only East African country without a confirmed Covid-19 case as of now, although Rwanda says one of the five patients in the country include a Ugandan. Kenya and Tanzania already have confirmed cases.
