Standard Bank Group appointed Anne Juuko, formerly the Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda, as the new Global Markets Regional Head for East Africa, starting April 1. This strategic move places Juuko at the forefront of the bank's ambitions in the region, overseeing operations across seven countries.

Reflecting on Juuko's new role, Kayode Solola, Standard Bank Group's Executive Head for Global Markets—Africa Regions, lauded her ascent within the organization. "Anne's skyward deployment to oversee our markets in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, South Sudan, Malawi, and Zambia is a testament to her exceptional leadership qualities and her significant contributions to our operations in Uganda," Solola remarked.

Stanbic Bank Uganda's Board Chairman, Damoni Kitabire, took the opportunity to commend Juuko for her instrumental role in the bank's achievements. "Anne, along with her senior management team, has led Stanbic Bank Uganda to considerable successes, benefiting our customers and shareholders alike," Kitabire said, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the bank's prosperity.

Patrick Mweheire, Standard Bank Group's Regional Chief Executive for East Africa, expressed his confidence in Juuko's capabilities to steer the region towards further growth. "Anne's expertise, market networks, and leadership experience position her well to lead our East African operations, driving us towards our goals in revenue, profitability, and sustainability," Mweheire stated, welcoming her to the new role.

Juuko's banking career is distinguished by her rapid rise through the ranks at Standard Bank Group, culminating in her historic appointment as the first female CEO of Uganda's largest commercial bank in 2020. Under her stewardship, Stanbic Bank Uganda navigated through challenging economic conditions, including the global COVID-19 pandemic, to post impressive financial results and launch groundbreaking initiatives.

Her tenure saw the introduction of the SACCO financing and capacity building program, which has significantly impacted smallholder farmer groups across Uganda, and the Stanbic4Her initiative, aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs with access to affordable credit and financial literacy training.

Beyond her banking accomplishments, Juuko has been an advocate for social causes, notably in maternal and neonatal health, and has been instrumental in the growth of digital financial solutions such as FlexiPay.
