President Yoweri Museveni on June 10, 2026 witnessed the signing of an agreement between Uganda Airlines and Boeing for the acquisition of 10 new aircraft.
State House described the deal as a major step towards expanding Uganda’s aviation capacity and strengthening its links with global markets.
The new fleet will include both passenger and cargo aircraft. Government said the expansion will boost trade, tourism and investment while helping Uganda position itself as a regional aviation hub.
The agreement comes as Uganda seeks to grow air transport capacity and increase direct connections to key destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Uganda Airlines, which resumed commercial operations in 2019 after nearly two decades off the skies, has steadily expanded its network. The national carrier currently operates regional and international routes, including services to destinations in East Africa, Southern Africa and the Middle East.
The airline has also sought to strengthen its long-haul operations as part of the government’s strategy to support exports, tourism and business travel. Cargo expansion has become a priority as Uganda looks to increase exports of fresh produce, fish, flowers and other products to international markets.
Officials believe the acquisition of additional aircraft will improve route flexibility, increase passenger capacity and strengthen Uganda Airlines’ competitiveness within the region.
