Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving in South Sudan under Operation Mulinzi wa Kimya have marked the 45th Tarehe Sita anniversary with medical camps and community support activities aimed at strengthening ties with local residents.
The commemoration was led by the Special Forces Command (SFC) Component Commander in South Sudan, Col JM Kabila, who represented the Joint Task Force Commander, Brig Gen Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi.
Col Kabila said Tarehe Sita represents patriotism, Pan-African unity and selfless service. He paid tribute to serving personnel, veterans and fallen heroes from both Uganda and South Sudan for their role in advancing regional peace, security and stability.
As part of the activities, Col Kabila, together with Mangalla Payam Director Juma Marcellino Sebur, commissioned a newly constructed pit latrine at Dingdong Primary School.
The UPDF medical team also conducted a two-day free treatment outreach in Mangalla Payam and at the school. More than 1,500 people received care.
Medical staff handled infectious diseases, heart-related conditions, respiratory illnesses, endocrine and metabolic disorders, and gynaecological cases.
On behalf of the local authorities, Sebur thanked the UPDF for standing in solidarity with the people of South Sudan and for extending free health services to the community.
Representing the Battle Group Commander, Col Bernard Kashemeza, Lt Col Alex Habyona urged residents to maintain the spirit of brotherhood. He said Uganda and South Sudan share deep historical and cultural bonds.
The event drew military and civilian leaders, including Asset Commander Steven Namolo, Maj Benon Bamuhimbise and Gondokoro Payam Director Karlo Insak.
