President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni chaired a high-level Ad-Hoc Summit on the security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, bringing together regional leaders to push for coordinated action to restore peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.
The summit, held at State House Entebbe, focused on strengthening regional cooperation to address persistent insecurity in eastern Congo, which continues to affect neighboring countries.
Addressing participants, President Museveni welcomed the commitment shown by regional states, saying the discussions demonstrated a shared resolve to end violence and promote long-term stability.
“I am encouraged by the discussions and the strong commitment of participating countries to collaborate for lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region,” Museveni said.
He thanked the delegations for attending the meeting and described the engagements as constructive, noting that collective regional action remains critical to resolving the conflict in eastern Congo.
“The discussions were constructive and I am encouraged by the shared commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region,” the President added.
The Ad-Hoc Summit is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts by countries in the Great Lakes region to address insecurity through dialogue, cooperation and coordinated security interventions, as leaders seek sustainable solutions to one of Africa’s longest-running conflicts.
