Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under the United Nations Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI) in Somalia have successfully completed Camp Security and Induction Training, enhancing their preparedness for peacekeeping operations.
The training, conducted for the third batch of personnel, focused on strengthening security skills and deepening the troops' understanding of UN operations in Somalia. The Camp Security Training equipped soldiers with the knowledge to protect UN personnel, assets, and compounds from potential threats. The Induction Training introduced them to the UN’s mandate in Somalia and the regulations governing their role within UNGU.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy UNGU-XI Commander, Major Jacob Gowan Kaburika, commended the soldiers for their dedication and discipline.
“You have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and commitment to your duties. I am confident that you will make a positive impact on our operations here in Somalia,” he said.
Robert Beljan, representing the Chief of Training, praised the troops for their discipline and cooperation. He urged them to apply their newly acquired skills in their daily operations.
The completion of this training is key in the UPDF’s mission under UNGU, reinforcing Uganda’s contribution to international peacekeeping efforts in Somalia.
