KCCA Volleyball Club to Build Indoor Court

The outgoing chairperson of KCCA Volleyball Club, Ivan Kiirya, has revealed exciting plans for the future of the club including the construction of an indoor volleyball court, a gym, an office building, and a perimeter wall at Naguru Katale in Nakawa Division.

The move aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities for players and enthusiasts, fostering a conducive environment for the development of volleyball in the region.

Kiirya made the remarks when he was handing over office to the newly appointed chairperson, Emmanuel Gabula. The event attended by the KCCA Volleyball Club, KCCA technical team, and fans was held at the Mayor’s Parlor.

He additionally talked about the introduction of the Lord Mayor's Volleyball Cup, featuring competition with schools in Kampala, which is set to elevate the profile of the sport and create opportunities for young talents.

Funds to construct the perimeter wall at the Naguru Katale Primary School have been secured and construction works will be delivered by the Uganda People’s Defence Force. One of the key highlights of Kiirya's tenure was the triumphant return of the KCCA Ladies Volleyball Club, clinching the National Volleyball League title in 2023 after a remarkable 17-year wait.

Kiirya challenged the new leadership to pursue the registration of the club as a company, a strategic move aimed at attracting funding for further expansion and development. KCCA Ladies Volleyball Club stands second in the National League while KCCA Volleyball Club for the men stands Fifth.

As Gabula takes over the reins, the focus shifts towards building on this success and ensuring sustainable growth. Gabula is set to lead the club into a new era, marked by initiatives aimed at promoting professionalism, community engagement, and enhanced facilities.

Gabula expressed his commitment to teamwork and collaboration with all stakeholders, including players, coaches, and fans. "As far as it is within our means, we shall move mountains to make it happen. We shall give you the results. We shall learn and unlearn to make things better," Gabula stated during the handover ceremony.

The outgoing leadership, including Ivan Kiirya, received commendation from various quarters, including Jimmy Amatre, Deputy Director of Social Services, who praised the club's accomplishments under Kirya's guidance.

Ronald Mubiru, manager of sports, tourism, and recreation, pledged continued support for the national champions. Catherine Echoku, Manager of KCCA Volley Clubs, highlighted the recent successes of the ladies' team, securing the championship in 2023.

Eunice, the captain of the KCCA Volleyball Ladies Club, expressed gratitude to the outgoing chairman for the support that led to their victory and promised to defend the league title with determination. As the KCCA Volleyball Club looks ahead to a promising future, the city anticipates a surge in volleyball enthusiasm and the realization of the ambitious plans set in motion by the dynamic new leadership.​
