Gen Kainerugaba Mourns Passing of Businessman Aponye

Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba joined other Ugandans to condole with the family of businessman Apollo Nyegamehe, alias Aponye, who died in an accident on Thursday night.

Gen Kainerugaba, who described Aponye as a friend, said he first got to know about him while deployed in South Sudan.

"I am greatly saddened to hear about the tragic death of our friend and supporter Apollo Nyegamehe aka Aponye," said Gen Kainerugaba.

"I first got to know Aponye in South Sudan while we were deployed there. He was a diligent and energetic businessman. We shall all miss him. May his soul rest in peace."

According to Rwizi Regional Police Spokesman SP Samson Kasasira, the businessman died at around 9pm along the Ntungamo-Mbarara Road in Itojo.

"Today at around 2100HRS Police in Ntungamo District registered a fatal motor accident along the Ntungamo Mbarara Road in Itojo involving motor vehicles registration number  UBF 300Z Land Cruiser and UAZ 767D FUSO," Kasasira said.

The police spokesman said preliminary investigations showed that the car Aponye was traveling in, which was headed to Kabale side rammed into a stationary Fuso.

The Fuso "had got a mechanical problem alongside the road," he said.

Aponye had travelled with other people that police didn't identify and they are undergoing treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital 

Aponye owned multiple businesses in different sectors, including real estate, agro-processing and retail.
