Police Constitute 25 Teams for Impending Recruitment Drive

“The recruitment is based on the needs of the institution, that were identified through a staffing analysis, in line with our vision to provide an enlightened, motivated, community oriented, accountable and modern police force, that is geared towards a crime free society,” Enanga said.

Twenty-five police teams have been constituted to man recruitment into the Uganda Police Force, due to start on July 29. The one week country wide exercise will climax on August 4, 2019.

Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says the recruitment teams will this week be flagged off to different parts of the country by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola. The country wide recruitment drive targets 4500 Probational Police Constables (PPCs) and 500 Learner Assistant Inspectors of Police (AIPs).

“The recruitment is based on the needs of the institution, that were identified through a staffing analysis, in line with our vision to provide an enlightened, motivated, community oriented, accountable and modern police force, that is geared towards a crime free society,” Enanga said.

“The public is reminded that the police is a service organization and the quality of service delivery is directly linked to the quality of personnel who are recruited. Therefore, the process of attracting potential recruits and learner AIPs is more complex, than merely convincing a large number of candidates to submit their applications,” he added.

The police spokesperson revealed that the recruitment teams have already been briefed on the recruitment process and further tasked to ensure, they recruit sufficient numbers of qualified persons, who are a “good fit” for the institution. “The candidates should have good communication skills, be calm, confident, problem solvers, team players who can easily build relationships, respect other people and appreciate views from the public. All interested applicants are recommended to read and satisfy themselves, with the minimum eligibility criteria, before they apply,” Enanga emphasized.

For Probational Constables, eligible candidates should be aged 18 to 25 years and must possess a UCE Certificate with at least 5 credits, including in Math and English, while for Learner AIPs, applicants must possess diplomas in relevant science fields such as Clinical Medicine and Community Health, Environmental Health Science, Public Health Dentistry, Orthopedic Clinical Medicine, Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering, among others.

“We would like to further reiterate that the police is an equal opportunities employer and that the process of recruitment is by rule and merit. Therefore, all applicants are warned against giving bribes or make attempts to influence the recruitment process, through politicians, unscrupulous people, intermediary agents or policemen. There is no way of getting selected through fraudulent means,” Enanga warned, adding that any persons found to be giving such false promises “must be reported to the nearest police station, the PSU (Police Professional Standards Unit), or other anti-corruption agency for investigation.”
