Janet Museveni to Meet MPs over Reopening of Schools
The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports is set to meet all Members of Parliament in regards to Government’s preparations to reopen schools.
Government closed all institutions of learning in March 2020 following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. While chairing plenary on Thursday, Deputy Speaker Anita Among revealed that the First Lady, Janet Museveni has requested to meet the MPs to seek their input as Government finalizes plans to reopen schools.
“I have got a communication from the First Lady, the Minister of Education and she is requesting to have a meeting with MPs on Wednesday next week. The meeting will discuss issues regarding preparations to open up schools,” Anita Among said.
MPs are expected to take a Covid test on Monday ahead of the Wednesday meeting at Kololo Ceremonial Ground. Anita said that the idea to meet the MPs at Kololo is premised on the fact that Parliament is small and cannot accommodate the over 529 MPs without disobeying the COVID-19 SOPs.
Last month, President Yoweri Museveni announced that schools will reopen in January next year, regardless of low vaccination uptake. Government has made it mandatory for all teachers to be vaccinated.
