Joeboy Says His Music Found Fame in Uganda Before Nigeria
Nigerian singer Joeboy recently revealed that his music gained popularity in Uganda before it did in Nigeria. The "Beginning" hitmaker performed in Uganda for the second time on Saturday, 27th July, sharing insights into his musical journey.
Joeboy, who first travelled outside Nigeria to perform in Kampala at the Malembe Block Party in 2019, reminisced about his early days. At that time, he had only one song titled "Baby".
"I feel East Africa," Joeboy told the audience at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds during the Lavida Rave, which he headlined. "The last time I came here, I had one song to perform. Now I have more than 20."
Shortly after his trip to Kampala in August 2019, Joeboy released "Beginning". Since then, he has produced numerous hits, including "Show Me," "Wetin Be Love," "Cubana," "Likkle Riddim," "Duffel Bag," "Contour," "Baby," "Call," "Don't Call Me Back," "Focus," "Lonely," "Osadebe," and "All for You," all of which he performed at the Lavida Rave over the weekend.
Joeboy, whose real name is Joseph Akinwale, also performed the remix of "Nana" with Joshua Baraka. The remix of Baraka's breakout song also features Bien and King Promise.
The Lavida Rave was enlivened by various activities, including DJ battles and games. EM That Guy faced off with Eyo Mackus, with both securing Uganda Airlines tickets to any destination of their choice. Mackus won a business class ticket, while That Guy received an economy class ticket. DJ Hady competed with Lynda Ddane for similar prizes, with Ddane emerging victorious.
The event was hosted by Diziz, Viana Indi, Daggy Nyce, and Saint Trevor.
