Parliament to Re-table Bill on Homosexuality
Speaker Anita Among has said that Parliament will tomorrow, 01st March 2023, re-table the Anti-Homosexuality Bill.
Among said this during ecumenical prayers held on Tuesday morning at Parliament.
"As an institution that passes laws, tomorrow we are going to bring a bill on anti-homosexuality," Among said.
She urged religious leaders to be part of this important session to witness how MPs will vote on it.
Among lambasted western countries for forcing Africans into homosexuality at the expense of their virtues and culture.
" We do not appreciate the monies that they (western powers) are bringing to Uganda to destroy our cultures," she said.
In December 2014, Parliament passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill that criminalizes same sex marriages.
The Bill was assented to by the President in February 2014, before it was overturned by Court on technicalities of requisite quorum.
Speaker Among said that when the bill is reintroduced, voting will be done by show of hands and open declaration.
"There will be no aspect of quorum because this time around voting will be by show of hands. You are either for homosexuality or against," she said.
