The Ugandan Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces of the Uganda People's Defense Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has opened up about his scheduled meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister HE Abiy Ahmed.

In a message shared on his Twitter account Saturday evening, Gen Kainerugaba shared a picture of the Ethiopian leader with President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda with the following caption.

"The stability of East Africa depends on two countries...Ethiopia and Uganda. The river Nile begins from these two mothers of Africa. I am going to Ethiopia to try and bring understanding between us. May Jesus Christ be with us!" Gen Kainerugaba said.

The Ugandan General then shared a Bible verse to follow the above message.

"Then Jesus said 'Father, I thank you for hearing my prayer, now those who stand around me may believe that I am the resurrection and the life. And those who believe in me shall never die.' (John 11:25-26)."

Earlier, reports had indicated that Gen Kainerugaba was set to visit Ethiopia at the invitation of HE Abiy Ahmed.

The General's tweet indeed suggests that he is planning to meet the Ethiopian Prime Minister, although the date of the meeting has not been made public yet.

Recently, President Museveni said that the Commander Land Forces is one of the earliest Kadogos (child of the revolution), giving a nod to Gen Kainerugaba's works of creating and maintaining friends for Uganda especially because of his revolutionary linkages. This was in an interview with BBC's Alan Kasujja.

"Muhoozi was born in the struggle, he is one of the earliest Kadogos (young children of the revolution). He has those linkages and it's good for him to use them for the country -- for Uganda," President Museveni said.

The Ugandan president further explained that having been born in Tanzania, lived in Kenya and trained in Egypt among other countries, Gen Kainerugaba is doing the right thing by relating with leaders of other countries.

In the recent past Gen Kainerugaba has visited and held meetings with Rwanda's President Paul Kagame, Kenya's Uhuru Kenyatta, Egypt's Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and South Africa's Cyril Ramaphosa.

Gen Kainerugaba's scheduled meeting with PM Abiy comes on the backdrop of reports indicating that the Ethiopian government is ready to negotiate with Tigray forces who have been at war with Mr Abiy's government since 2020.

Last week, Gen Kainerugaba tweeted saying he's never had a problem with PM Abiy, noting that his wish is for peace in Ethiopia.

"I have never had a problem with my brother, His Excellency Abiy Ahmed, in fact I respect him. All we want is peace in Ethiopia," Gen Kainerugaba said in the August 17 tweet.
